Centerline to edge limitations explained

When installing all self clinching types of fasteners you must adhere to the minium center line to edge recommendation as detailed in the data sheets. For situations where you must install very close to the edge, use the work arounds detailed below.

When installing very close to the edge of the panel, any formed bulge will result in a reduced performance and the center-line of the fastener will move toward the edge (causing later hole misalignment problems).
Using a thicker panel will allow for installation closer to the edge. (Conversely thinner sheets require a greater distance).
Using a nut with a shorter shank length will allow closer edge distance.
If you really need to install very close to the edge (closer than recommended) then:
- Put up with the bulge and the reduced performance.
- Make a bracket to hold the edge of the panel (see diagram above).
- Speak to our technical department to discuss your application. (We may be able to design a special fastener to suit your application).
