About Self Piercing Pias® Nuts

Our high performance Pias® Self Piercing nuts offer a stronger and highly reliable alternative to traditional self clinching, staking and weld nuts.

In most cases a Pias® solution will yield significant cost and time savings when compared to weld nuts or a staked fastener.

Eliminates Welding - and the need for expensive and sometimes hazardous welding operations.

Repeatable Reliability - with proper installation, Rivtex® and Pias® clinch nuts can reduce potential failures.

Consistent push-out and torque--out strength is achievable from the first to the last installation.

High Performance - once installed, Pias® nuts provide a high resistance to rotational and push-out forces.

Torsional and push-out strength are limited only by the shear strength of the panel material.

Installation - Utilising modular punch dies and blocks, Pias® nuts can be installed on most presses, or for very high production rates, fully automated feed and installation equipment is available.

Modular construction of the punch blocks allow up to 100 stroke per minute.

Self Piercing Pias®
Clinch Nuts
Type HN

Information

Up to now, the PIAS® clinch process has only been applicable to sheet metal of up to 2.5mm thick, but ARNOLD & SHINJO has now significantly extended the application range for these fasteners.

The new product range PIAS® HN piercing nuts now make it possible to process sheet metal up to 4 millimetres thick, and in aluminium panels even up to 5 millimetres.

Particularly suited to applications with sheet metal panels which need to meet special requirements in respect of mechanical strength and vibration resistance, these new, tough fasteners offer huge advantages over weld nuts or other fasteners. PIAS® HN piercing nuts are characterised by a special material and a unique punch collar geometry.

They are supplied in property class 10 material with thread sizes of M5 to M10 from stock. The special knurl on the punch collar allows PIAS® HN piercing nuts to offer a high degree of torque resistance.

Cost advantages exceeding 30 percent when compared with the classical welding techniques are, in addition to the high quality of the joint, a decisive argument in favour of specifying the piercing nut system

Key areas of application are in the commercial vehicle industry, fittings for the building industry, and furniture production.

For processing the HN piercing nuts ARNOLD & SHINJO provides a modular tooling range. Punch heads, dies, feeding devices and the necessary control systems are part of the standard supply programme. If required, complete processing systems can be planned and supplied for use in high volume  production.

Pias Self Piercing Nuts Type HN

Suitable for panel thickness: 2.5 - 4.0mm

Available in thread Sizes:
M5 - M12

Available in strength property class:
10

Features:

The square piercing nut is a high strength female threaded fastener particularly suited to thicker sheet metal panels

Self Piercing Pias Nuts Installation stage 1

Stage 1 - Start

The piercing nut is clamped in the punch, the sheet metal is placed on the die.

Self Piercing Pias Nuts Installation stage 2

Stage 2 - Press Stroke

When the punch moves down, the spigot of the nut punches the hole into the sheet.

Self Piercing Pias Nuts Installation stage 3

Stage 3 - Punch Process

The stamping waste drops through the die and the sheet is pressed into the nut.

Self Piercing Pias Nuts Installation stage 4

Stage 4 - Clinching Process

The punch is in lower position and the sheet metal is completely forced into the undercut of the nut.

Installed - Sectional view

Part is fully installed. The sectional view shows how the sheet metal has flowed into the special clinching feature.

In order to punch and install PIAS® nuts, tooling and feeding equipment for the PIAS® system is required.
